Science, technology, engineering, & math (STEM) education creates critical thinkers & enables the next generation of innovators. STEM is vital to American competitiveness, yet relatively few students obtain a STEM bachelor’s degree. Why? Because not enough students are aware of STEM careers, confident to pursue STEM degrees, & prepared to excel in STEM programs, particularly within the underrepresented populations. It is imperative that as a nation, we make STEM education a top priority. We have a lot of work to do.
Why did you decide to major in science, technology, engineering or math (STEM)? Did someone you know inspire, encourage, & support you to pursue this rewarding career, or did you enter the field with lots of questions & even some self-doubt? Regardless your answer, as a STEM major you can now make a real difference in the life of a underrepresented high school student. By sharing your experiences, perspectives, & guidance, you can help make the road to college & STEM less of a mystery to a motivated high school student.
Do you know a scientist? How about an engineer? If you don't, don’t worry— you aren't alone. Most young people have never knowingly met, seen, or even heard from an individual studying or working in the science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) field. Well, ManyMentors aims to change that. By connecting you with college students pursuing STEM-related majors, we plan not only ease the transition from high school to college, but also challenge common misconceptions about the ‘hard-core’ sciences and the people who study them.
